LUNAR ECLIPSE IN VIRGO
The healing power of closing a chapter
On March 3, we have a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo. The mutable earth sign is ruled by Mercury and connected to a sharp, but potentially neurotic intellect that tends to become hyperfocused. This can be very beneficial in certain contexts, for example diligent and detail-oriented work, which Virgo people excel at. It’s a critical, and often very self-critical sign whose bearers can be deeply insecure and have difficulties expressing themselves, but on the other hand, you don’t want to be the target of Virgo’s deadpan, cut-through-the-BS judgement that can analyze a situation/ person with eerie accuracy without wasting a second on flattery or other fluff. Virgo doesn’t thrive on shallow social approval, but appreciates feeling needed and seen for what they are, without pretense. Virgo often gets a bad rap for being nitpicky, impossible to please and OCD, but its strengths reveal beautiful gifts such as psychic abilities (Mercury is the wanderer between the worlds, remember?), being very sympathetic to other people’s problems, an amazing focus for noticing what others overlook, a talent for healing through their quick and precise assessment, and being generous with love once they feel safe enough to open up.
This is a Full Moon eclipse, and since the Full Moon symbolizes completion and the closing of a cycle, we can expect something important within our lives to come to a possibly long overdue conclusion. Themes associated with Virgo’s nature will be highlighted now, as well as the Virgo-Pisces axis that governs the immune system and the sympathetic (involuntary) nervous system. This can be especially significant for those of us with strong Virgo/ Pisces placements, especially if we have a tendency towards heightened nervous sensitivity. We could, for example, come to terms with certain patters we have subconsciously been following and now are abandoning in favor of a better and healthier approach. For others, the eclipse may bring a new clarity in terms of relationships and how they affect one’s physical and psychic health. Virgo’s hypersensitivity can also be a barometer for something or someone not being good for our wellbeing.
During the eclipse, the Moon is in an Arabic Lunar Mansion called The Wings or The Lovers that is all about love, union, attraction and charm. The Sun is in a Mansion called The Second Horse or The Empty Vessel that is associated with loss, obstacles, damage and friction. This opposition does not have to mean that we must make a decision between the two extremes; it’s more an illumination of a need for balance: knowing what and who is worth connecting with, and either coming to terms with losses that we have had to endure, or consciously letting go of connections or situations that have become burdensome and may not even be our own baggage to carry. Conversely, where Pisces longs for (ego-)dissolution and unity, Virgo is extremely guarded and overly cautious. Using both qualities in moderation and for the right purpose is certainly not always easy, but will show us what truly nurtures us. Some of us may have learned to overcome lifelong fears, for example, or other important and probably not terribly easy lessons over the past months or years, the effects of which could benefit us for a long time to come.
